Total Workplace Management is the official exhibition of the BIFM and focuses on the efficient maintenance and running of a building's infrastructure. It brings together product & service providers with FM and estates professionals and will take place from 8-9 October as part of Working Buildings 2008.

For the 4th Farnborough International Air Showin succession, London Cool is again gearing up to provide exhibitors with air conditioning and climate control requirements.
A bi-annual event, The Farnborough Air Show is recognized as the world’s best air show for business, and for public visitors it is the greatest display of aircraft on the planet - the ultimate day out! Flying displays will include The Red Arrows, and an assortment of classic aircraft types that first flew in the 1948 Air Show. 2008 sees The Farnborough International Air Show celebrating its diamond anniversary, marking 60 successful years at the Farnborough Aerodrome.

After a record breaking, warm April, the 3 months from May to July produced record breaking rainfall figures, which resulted in severe flooding in many areas of the UK. While there is a legal minimum temperature below which no-one should have to work, there is no equivalent if it gets too hot.
Too much heat can cause fatigue, extra strain on the heart and lungs, dizziness and fainting, or heat cramps due to loss of water and salt. Hot, dry air can increase the risk of eye and throat infections, and breathing problems such as asthma and rhinitis.
The TUC is calling for a maximum working temperature of 30°C, or 27°C for those doing strenuous work. When the heat hits the maximum, employers should reduce the temperature, with, for example, fans or air conditioning. Workers, whose exposure to heat cannot be reduced, should be provided with adequate breaks and offered job rotation. Hot temperatures cause injuries and illness at work. Employees suffering in sweltering workplaces run the risk of:
· heat stroke and dehydration
· tiredness leading to accidents
· irritability and the threat of violence
· higher stress levels, with enhanced risks of mental and physical illness
TUC General Secretary, John Monks, said:
'It is farcical that we have a legal minimum but no legal maximum for workplace temperatures. Extreme heat can be just as dangerous as extreme cold. While there is no legal maximum working temperature, Britain's workers are not protected from sweatshop conditions.'
