Dehumidification

De-humidifiers dry the air without cooling it. They work like a normal air conditioner, except that a heat exchanger is placed between the intake and exhaust. In combination with convection fans they achieve a similar level of comfort as an air cooler in humid areas, but only consume about a third of the electricity. They are also preferred by those who find the draft created by air coolers discomforting. Air conditioners automatically act as dehumidifiers when they chill the air and thus need to handle the accumulated water as well. Some models use the condensing coil and fan to evaporate the accumulated water into the outdoor air, while normal units simply allow the water to collect in a tank. Some air conditioning units need to be connected to a drain.

London Cool Appliances

A dehumidifier is an appliance that reduces the level of humidity in air, usually for health reasons, as humid air can cause mold and mildew to grow inside homes, which has various health risks. Very high humidity levels are also unpleasant for human beings, and can cause unsightly condensation. Dehumidifiers are useful in a variety of situations including new buildings, and buildings which have been subject to flooding.

Portable Air Conditioning

Portable air conditioners come in three forms, split, hose exhaust, and evaporative. The main uses/advantages of Portable Air Conditioning are:

  • It is portable, and thus location can be easily changed.
  • Temporary – in areas where air conditioning might not normally be needed, but there is a temporary requirement.
  • Emergency – portable air conditioning units can be supplied as emergency backup, in case of fixed air conditioning failure – especially critical in such areas as IT, Data Centres and Server Rooms.
  • If a permanent solution where fixed air conditioning is not possible.

Why Hire a Dehumidifier?

Hiring a dehumidifier is a cost-effective solution to controlling condensation, removing moisture from the air, tackling mould, and drying out properties that may have flooded.

Dehumidifiers are essential in situations where controlling humidity and moisture is important, including:

  • Damp atmospheres – such as basements, warehouses, and older buildings. Humidity can lead to persistent damp and musty conditions, which can cause structural damage and mould.
  • Condensation – in environments where cold surfaces are common, condensation can form quickly and cause water damage or corrosion.

Commercial & Industrial Uses for Dehumidifier Hire

Dehumidifier hire is a cost-effective solution for a range of commercial and industrial applications where moisture control is needed on a short-term basis.

  • Warehouses – warehouses and storage facilities are vulnerable to high humidity which can damage stock and packaging, and lead to financial losses. Dehumidifiers can help maintain stable moisture levels to protect goods.
  • Commercial and industrial drying – commercial and industrial environments are rife with moisture buildup due to processes, lack of ventilation, and weather changes. Dehumidifiers can provide fast and effective drying to protect operations and equipment.
  • Flood recovery – if you’ve suffered from leaks, flooding, or water damage, rapid action is crucial to remove moisture. Dehumidifiers can be hired to accelerate drying times to reduce the risk of mould growth and help the building recover quickly.

Temporary hire is perfect for these and many other situations due to its flexibility, quick deployment, and the ability to scale where needed.

Domestic Dehumidifier Hire

Although our dehumidifiers are ideal for many commercial applications, they’re also suitable for common household issues, such as:

  • Condensation on windows
  • Damp rooms

It’s also an effective solution for temporary issues, such as seasonal damp, renovations, and flood recovery.

Our portable dehumidifiers are designed for home use, ensuring easy operation and placing into living spaces that need it. At London Cool, we offer expert advice when choosing a domestic or residential dehumidifier to rent, and can help you choose the correct size and spec for your application.

How Dehumidifiers Work

Dehumidifiers work by removing excess moisture from the air, which can make rooms more comfortable and prevent problems like mould and damp. Unlike air conditioners, dehumidifiers focus solely on moisture removal, but may still generate warm air as part of the process.

Benefits of Hiring From London Cool

Hiring a dehumidifier offers a range of benefits from environmental comfort to flexibility and cost savings.

  • Protects assets and equipment – dehumidifiers prevent rust, corrosion, and damage to machinery by removing excess moisture from the air.
  • Improved health and safety – humidity can increase the risk of mould, mildew, and dust mites. A dehumidifier reduces these risks, which can create a safer environment for employees and visitors.

Choosing the Right Dehumidifier for Your Space

When choosing the right dehumidifier for your space, you must consider the room size, moisture levels, and temperature. The dehumidifier capacity is measured in litres per day and indicates how much moisture a unit can remove in 24 hours.

Smaller rooms with mild damp may only need 10-15 litres per day, but larger, more humid spaces may need 20-30 litres per day. For commercial or heavily damp areas, you may need units over 30 litres per day for faster, more efficient drying.

  • After leaks, floods, or water damage – to speed up drying and prevent mould growth.
  • During renovation projects – helps plaster, paint, and other materials dry efficiently.
  • Cellars – control dampness and reduce musty odours.
  • Storage areas and stock rooms – protect goods and equipment from moisture damage.
